Open Records

Requests for criminal case files and the information contained in them must be processed through the Texas Public Information Act (TxGC§552) in writing. You may pick up an application at the police department or download the form from this web site.

There are certain exceptions to disclosure that exist under the Texas Public Information Act, to protect against the disclosure of confidential information (i.e., juvenile information). For this reason, we strongly urge you to be as specific as possible in your request for information contained in a criminal case file. For example, if all you need is a list/description of the items/property that your case is written about, request that. Although government agencies have 10 days to respond to your written request, being specific greatly reduces processing time.

If it appears that an exception to the disclosure of such information exists; we will seek an opinion from the Attorney General’s Office on your behalf, within ten (10) days from receipt of your request.

You may wish to visit the Office of the Attorney General’s office web page at www.oag.state.tx.us for a detailed description of the Act.

Accident Reports

Accident reports (requested under TxGC§552.023) are available to the public for a $6.00 fee (Mandated by the TxDPS effective September 1, 2001), when they become available. TxDPS gives officers 10 days to complete written accident reports (ST-3’s).

Alarm Permit Program

THE CITY OF LEANDER REQUIRES ALARM SYSTEM USERS TO OBTAIN AN ALARM PERMIT FROM THE LEANDER POLICE DEPARTMENT

An alarm system is equipment which emits, transmits or relays a signal intended to summon, or that would reasonably be expected to summon, Police Department services, Fire Department services or Fire Department emergency medical services including, but not limited to, local alarms. A person commits an offense if he operates or causes to be operated an alarm system without an alarm permit issued by the Leander Police Department. It is YOUR responsibility to obtain a permit for your alarm system, NOT your alarm company.

Operating an alarm system without a valid permit can result in fines up to $500.

The Alarm Administrator is charged with the responsibility to process alarm permits, identify abusers, track frequent false alarms, and other problems associated with alarm responses and contact the owners for reimbursement of costs to the City of Leander and processes citations for violations of the Alarm Permit Ordinance.

To obtain an alarm permit application:

  • Call the Alarm Administrator, Monique Auchey at 512-528-2800
  • Contact the alarm administrator at the police department located at 705 Leander Drive.
  • Print the permit form from this website
